In an interview with Japanese outlet Futaman (translated by IGN), producer Masato Kumazawa acknowledged that a Japan-set title has been considered and may appear in the future. “I think that every Japanese Resident Evil fan has definitely thought about a Japan setting, and I've also considered it myself,” he said, noting that the development team, primarily based in Japan, has likely discussed the idea as well.

While the series has primarily taken place in the United States, it has ventured into other regions, such as Resident Evil Village's Eastern Europe and Resident Evil 5's West Africa. Fans are now debating how a Japan-set game might work. Many hope Capcom avoids the village-centered horror common in Japanese titles like Silent Hill f, Fatal Frame, and Siren. Instead, some suggest using Japan’s many small islands as isolated outbreak locations—a natural fit for a virus scenario.

The franchise already has some Japanese connections.
