Summer Game Fest 2026 just dropped a massive surprise for MMORPG fans. NC has officially confirmed that AION 2 is launching globally in September 2026. For those of us who have been waiting for a true, dedicated PC sequel, the game will be available directly on Steam as well as NC's own PURPLE launcher.

The game already saw huge commercial success when it debuted in Korea and Taiwan back in November 2025. For the upcoming global rollout, NC is setting up dedicated regional servers across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, alongside full localized support for 10 languages.

What We Learned at Summer Game Fest

The reveals from the event gave us a concrete look at what to expect from the sequel. Here are the major highlights from the show and the closed-door media hands-on sessions:

• Unreal Engine 5 World: The launch reveal trailer gave us a look at a completely rebuilt world of Atreia. It looks stunning, taking full advantage of Unreal Engine 5's lighting and detail.

• A Truly Massive Scale: NC noted that the seamless open world in the sequel is a staggering 36 times larger than the map of the original game.

• True Flight Combat: This is probably the biggest mechanical highlight. Unlike old-school MMOs where wings are just a fancy mount for traveling, flight in AION 2 is fully integrated as a vertical combat system. You can engage in full airborne combat, dynamic falling tactics, and precision positioning mid-air.

• Classic Feel, Modern Polish: Media outlets who got hands-on time during SGF Play Days confirmed that the game uses a polished tab-targeting action combat system. They also highlighted incredibly detailed character customization and an intricate cosmetics system.

Gameplay and the Endgame Loop

If you never played the first AION, don't worry. The developers designed this as a standalone title, meaning you do not need any prior knowledge of the original game's story or systems to dive in. The progression loop stretches across a healthy mix of both PvE and PvP content:

On the PvE side, activities scale smoothly depending on your group size. Content ranges from solo challenges and standard 4-player dungeons up to complex, highly tactical 8-player raids loaded with heavy mechanics.

For PvP players, the game features competitive 1v1 arenas, structured 4v4 matches, and massive cross-server Realm-vs-Realm (RvR) faction battles. To top it off, the high-stakes "Abyss" region is making a formal return.

The launch ecosystem looks pretty robust. It will feature 8 playable classes, a deep crafting tree, an open player-to-player trading system with an auction house, and over 200 collectible companion pets to hunt down.

Global pre-registration is officially live right now on the AION 2 Brand Website. If you sign up for their official newsletter, you will secure some guaranteed items for launch day.
